How to Fix Alt Text Issues with Images

  1. From the left sidebar main menu of your Siteimprove Dashboard, click on Accessibility; this will open the Accessibility submenu

  2. From the Accessibility submenu, click on Issues; this will open a table that lists all accessibility issues for you to review

  3. From the filter options at the top right of the table, click on Priority Issues; this will expand the Priority Issues filter submenu

  4. From the filter options, select Issues with Images; this will filter your results to display only alt text issues with images

    1. Note: Some examples of alt text issue descriptions include:

      1. Image link is missing alternative text

      2. Image with no alternative text

      3. The image does not have the correct alternative

  5. From the list of alt text issues on the table, select the alt text issue you want to fix by clicking on its description; this will take you to an overview page listing all the pages on your site affected by this alt text issue

    1. Note: At the top of the page, you will see the Description of the alt text issue as well as a suggestion on How to fix it

  6. Scroll down the overview page until you see the table listing all the pages affected by that alt text issue

  7. Click on the title of one of the affected pages; this will take you to the Page Report for that page

  8. You will now see every instance of that alt text issue highlighted on the Page Report

  9. Go to the page affected by the alt text in your Content Management System (CMS)

  10. Fix the alt text based on the image type and republish the page

    1. Note: Once the fix is live, you can re-check the page in Siteimprove to make sure the alt text issue was fixed correctly
