How to Fix a Misspelling

  • From the left sidebar main menu of your Siteimprove Dashboard, click on Quality Assurance; this will open the Quality Assurance submenu

  • From the Quality Assurance submenu, click on Spelling; this will open the Spelling submenu

  • From the Spelling submenu, click on Find Misspellings; this will open a table that lists misspellings on your site

    • Note: There are three categories for misspellings:

      • Misspellings are words that are definitely misspelled

      • Needs Review are misspellings that may actually be correct in the context of your website

      • Approved Words will not be marked as misspellings in the future; this helps avoid having proper names, addresses, etc. flagged in future spellchecks

  • If it is not already selected, click on the Misspellings tab

  • From the list of misspellings, find the misspelled word you want to correct

  • From the far right of the table, expand the Pages column to view all pages on your site where the misspelling was found; this will open a sub-table that lists the title of all pages where the misspelling was found.

    • Note: if the misspelling is found on multiple pages, it needs to be corrected on each page

  • Click on the page title of the page where the misspelling was found; this will take you to the Page Report for that page

  • You will now see the misspelled word highlighted with a flashing red color on the Page Report

    • Note: If the misspelled word is not highlighted or does not seem to be on the live page, try switching to Show HTML, as these misspellings are typically found only in the source code

  • Go to the page affected by the misspelling in your Content Management System (CMS).

  • Fix the misspelling and republish the page

    • Note: Once the fix is live, you can re-check the page in Siteimprove to make sure the links were fixed correctly; if you have corrected the misspelling on multiple pages, you can re-check pages in bulk by ticking off the boxes next to each page and then clicking on the Re-check button
